Good morning! What a beautiful first day of fall in the Flathead Valley! Cool, crisp morning, bright blue sky, and the sun just peaking over the mountains! I'd say we're very fortunate to live, work, play, and/or retire in the Flathead Valley! We have a busy next couple of days of "greens maintenance" required to keep the greens in good condition. Aerification and top dressing is a ton of work for the grounds crew, but essential for healthy greens! I was asked last week why we can't do this work on cold days instead of doing it whenever it's sunny and warm. The answer of course is that we absolutely need it to be warm and dry for every aspect of the process. From punching holes to top dressing, it all must be done in warm, dry conditions! Can you imagine if golf courses punched holes (aerified) in the greens while it was wet? We'd have mud everywhere - and sand wouldn't make it into the holes! Have a great week! Steve Dunfee, General Manager From the Golf Course Holeeeeee - The greens will be aerified Monday and Tuesday this week. They need this process very badly. After that very short rainfall (.06") last Thursday morning, we had standing water on several greens! Edges - We will continue to backfill the cart path edges with plugs from the aerified tees, collars and approaches - a long process. Hydro-Seeding - The slope below #17 tee where we replace the soil that had caved in will be professionally hydro seeded this Monday. Guardian - On the downhill side of the new asphalt going down the hill to #5 Champ tee, a 4' fence will be installed to provide a measure of safety for that steep drop off. Many thanks go out to all of you that played in and supported the First Annual "Dick Seddon Memorial Golf Scramble" that was held at Buffalo Hill this past Sunday. What a good time was had by all and what a great cause it supported. Speaking of tournaments with good causes, don't forget about the "Prostrate Awareness Tournament" which will be held this coming Sunday (9/27/2009). The day will start out with complimentary coffee and donuts followed by a BBQ after your round. It's hard to believe, but Christmas will be here before we know it so if you haven't made arrangements for a Christmas Party, luncheon or holiday get together give BJ a call and reserve a date for your special event. Red Line on #2 - Earlier this year, we painted a red line (lateral water hazard) on the left side of #2 champ fairway. This lateral hazard line ONLY applies to those players who are playing #2 champ. We will give this a try, and if there are not complications or unforeseen consequences, it will become permanent.

Remember, for good care of your golf course, please keep carts away from all tees and greens.
